Defensive Financial Planning

Protect what you have. Grow it safely. Pass it on.

Most financial advice is about offense — chasing returns. We focus on defense.

Before a family grows wealth, it needs a foundation that can’t be knocked over: income that keeps coming if something happens, savings that are shielded from market crashes, and clear instructions for the next generation. These are the tools we use to build that foundation. Which ones fit — and how they’re combined — depends entirely on your family. That’s what the conversation is for.

If your income stopped tomorrow, what would keep your family going?

Life insurance

Term Life

The most coverage for the lowest cost, for the years your family needs it most.

Coverage for a set period — often 10, 20 or 30 years — while you’re raising children, paying a mortgage or building savings.

  • Replaces income and pays off debts if the unexpected happens
  • Most of the term policies we offer include living benefits for critical, chronic and terminal illness
  • Many can be converted to permanent coverage later, often without a new medical exam
  • Your health rating is one of the biggest factors in your price — the healthier you are when you apply, the better the rate

Ask us: “Is my workplace coverage really enough — and what happens to it if I change jobs?”

Life insurance

Permanent Life

Coverage that lasts your whole life — and builds cash value along the way.

Whole life and universal life policies are designed to stay in force for life, while part of each premium builds cash value you may be able to use during your lifetime.

  • Cash value grows tax-deferred
  • Death benefit is generally income-tax-free to your beneficiaries
  • Cash value can often be accessed through policy loans for emergencies, opportunities or retirement

Ask us: “What if my life insurance could also be a source of money I can use while I’m alive?”

Riders & features

Living Benefits

Life insurance you don’t have to die to use.

Modern policies can let you access part of your death benefit early if you’re diagnosed with a qualifying critical, chronic or terminal illness — and some can help pay for long-term care. So a health crisis doesn’t become a financial crisis.

  • Critical illness — such as a heart attack, stroke or cancer diagnosis
  • Chronic illness — when you can no longer perform everyday activities on your own
  • Terminal illness — access to funds when they matter most
  • Long-term care — available on some policies through added riders

Most of the carriers we work with offer these benefits, and we make a point of including them in the policies we recommend. Many older policies don’t have them — it’s worth checking yours.

Ask us: “Does my current policy include living benefits?”

2 · Grow safely

What if your savings could share in market gains — without sharing in market losses?

Life insurance

Indexed Universal Life (IUL)

Lifelong protection with cash value growth linked to a market index — and a floor against index losses.

Your cash value isn’t invested in the stock market. Instead, interest is credited based on how an index such as the S&P 500 performs, up to a cap. When the index falls, a floor (often 0%) protects your cash value from index losses.

  • Upside potential when the index rises, protection when it falls
  • Tax-deferred cash value growth, accessible through policy loans
  • Income-tax-free death benefit for your family
  • Used by many families as a tax-advantaged supplement to retirement income

Ask us: “Could some of my savings grow with protection from the next market crash?”

Caps, participation rates, fees and charges apply and vary by policy. Illustrated values are not guaranteed.

Retirement income

Annuities

Turn savings into income you can’t outlive.

Fixed and fixed indexed annuities offer protection from market losses, tax-deferred growth and — with the right options — guaranteed income for life, no matter how long you live.

  • Fixed annuities: a guaranteed interest rate for a set term
  • Fixed indexed annuities: growth linked to an index, with principal protected from index losses
  • Lifetime income options, like a personal pension

Ask us: “How much guaranteed income could my savings create — and for how long?”

Surrender charges apply for early withdrawals. Income riders may carry additional fees.

Who decides what happens to your family if you can’t?

Estate documents

Wills & Trusts

Your wishes, in writing — so your family isn’t left guessing.

A will names who receives what and who raises your children. A living trust can help your family avoid probate, keep matters private, and control when and how children receive an inheritance.

  • Name guardians for minor children
  • Help your family avoid a lengthy, public probate process
  • Make sure life insurance proceeds are managed for children, not left in limbo
  • Powers of attorney and healthcare directives

Through our estate-planning legal partner, we help you put the right documents in place — and make sure they work together with your insurance and beneficiaries.

Ask us: “If something happened to both of us, who would raise our kids — and who would manage their money?”

Service

Notary Services

Get important documents signed and notarized, simply.

Many estate and financial documents need to be notarized to be valid. We can help you complete that step without an extra trip.

  • Wills, trusts and powers of attorney
  • Beneficiary and policy forms
  • Other everyday documents

Ask us when you book your check-in.
